Our Executive Vegetarian Chef Tutor, Lydia Downey, learnt to cook from an early age with her Chinese mother. Although Chinese takeaway food is one of the most popular British takeaways, Lydia says it rarely reflects her experience of real home-cooked, Chinese food.
This class is ideal for those of you who want to explore fantastic Chinese flavours and benefit from good nutrition without having to consume excess calories, grease and MSG!
In the morning, you will learn to prepare steamed bao or dumplings for brunch and a typical Chinese stock for soup. In the afternoon you will prepare a Chinese meal which will be consumed at the end of the session. The menu will include a Chinese snack, a tofu main, Chinese greens, a noodle or rice dish and a simple dessert such as ginger syrup infused fresh fruit.
The focus of the afternoon session will be on preparation and knife skills. There is, after all, much more than stir-frying to Chinese food.
