In this class you will learn the skills required to prepare a variety of vegetarian sushi styles at home

Sushi is not just about raw fish. Translated, sushi means vinegared rice and this can be served with a variety of toppings including shiitake mushroom, cucumber, spinach and egg. In Japan, sushi is often made for special occasions and is considered an integral part of festival celebrations including cherry blossom viewing picnics. Chef Tutor, Sachiko Saeki, will guide you to prepare the following

  • Maki (rolls) sushi
  • Inside-out (ura-maki) sushi
  • Nigiri
  • Temaki (hand rolls)
  • Gunkan

You will learn to use both brown and white rice and will be introduced to a variety of Japanese ingredients including
the sushi vinegar mix, nori seaweed, wasabi, pickled ginger, shoyu (Japanese soy sauce) and dried shiitake mushroom. The sushi will be prepared using a variety of vegetables.

To compliment your sushi, Sachiko will also demonstrate how to cook classic tofu and wakame seaweed miso soup. You will enjoy this at the end of your session alongside the sushi you prepare.
