Harborne Food School Welcome to Harborne Food School. We offer cookery classes, professional chef demonstrations and unique food experiences in our beautifully designed cookery school within the Grade II listed Clock Tower building on Harborne High Street, Birmingham. Our facilities are ideal for cooking classes, cooking demonstrations, food focus groups, food related training, private parties, private dining, team building and corporate events.

Join us for a Yoga/Cooking retreat at Harborne Food School. This ‘Urban Retreat’ experience aims to show you how to achieve physical health and mental wellbeing without having to escape to a far off location. You will arrive early for a ‘Yoga Masterclass’ followed by a ‘Mindful Smell and Taste’ session which will lead onto a ‘Plant Based Cooking Workshop’. The session is suitable for all levels of ability (beginner to advanced).

Janette Colbridge Vaze is a very well-known and respected yoga teacher based in Harborne. She teaches in a range of settings from private health clubs to special schools. After studying Biology at Oxford, Janette trained as a therapeutic masseuse, medical herbalist and yoga teacher. In this session, Janette will focus on mantras, mudras and banda. This naturally includes a focus on breathing.

The second part of our Urban Retreat is a ‘Plant Based Cooking Workshop’ led by Chef Tutor, Anton Petrov. Plant based food incorporates vegetables, legumes, fruit, unrefined grains and restricted animal product. In this hands-on cooking class, you will learn to prepare food that is balanced in flavour and nutrition. You will also learn about ancient Aryuvedic principles and the importance of mindful eating. You will cover recipes using every day ingredients that you can replicate at home.

Timetable for the day

8.00 – 11.00 Yoga Workshop (Asana, Pranayama and Meditation).

Please note that the session is structured to challenge and develop your practice but the aim isn’t to exhaust you. Janette is an advanced practitioner/teacher and the session will incorporate rest and relaxation time for recovery and rejuvenation.

11.00 – 12.00 Mindful smell and taste session over a nourishing breakfast

12.00 – 12.30 Introduction to Plant Based Cooking and Eating

12.30 – 14.30 Hands on cooking class

14.30 – 15.00 Final group meal of the food prepared
