Never mind essays and exams – one of the biggest challenges you’ll face at university is fending for yourself in the kitchen. At Harborne Food School, author of “The Hungry Student Cookbook”, Charlotte Pike, will show you how to eat your way from freshers’ week to graduation, all on a seriously tight budget.
Learning to cook for yourself does not mean relying on cheap junk food. The class is ideal for those with limited cooking experience through to more experienced cooks. Everyone will leave with great recipe ideas for quick, nutritious and cheap dishes. For examples of recipes covered on the course, visit
The session can be adapted for vegetarians and individuals with other dietary restrictions ( eg halal, gluten free, kosher etc).
You will get “hands on” experience of the preparation and cooking of a number of dishes under the guidance of Charlotte. You will also be given tips and tricks on topics such as use of leftovers and adding flavour to jazz up boring dishes. The class includes lunch and a final meal of the food produced. Don’t forget to bring take home boxes for leftovers.
You leave with sets of recipes and a factsheet of tips and tricks as well as the remainder of the food the group has prepared – so don’t forget to bring take-home boxes.
